Chapter two

Mood boards & inspiration

Nothing here was planned in a sketchbook first. It was pinned, moved, torn down and pinned again until the collection told us what it was.

Board one

6 things that inspired this collection

Collage board of vampires, psychward interiors, horror film stills, cigarettes, bedroom photographs and the god of eyes artwork

The list

  1. 01vampires
  2. 02psychward 60s
  3. 03old horror films
  4. 04cigarettes
  5. 05my bed room
  6. 06the god of eyes art

The turquoise, black and white combo — I don't know why I get inspired by it.

PANTONE 448 C was voted the ugliest colour in 2012. I find it unsettling, which is why I think it works.

The eyes piece is maximalist in concept, minimalist in execution — blue, black, white and tan keep the chaos readable.

Red, blue, white and black. Those are the colours I am going for.

Board two

6 films that inspired this collection

Collage board of film stills from Alice in Wonderland, Dracula, A Cure for Wellness, Crimson Peak and American Horror Story

The films

  1. 01Alice in Wonderland
  2. 02Bram Stoker's Dracula
  3. 03A Cure for Wellness
  4. 04Crimson Peak
  5. 05American Horror Story season 4
  6. 06Dracula

Period-accurate clothing from the 15th to the 19th century that embraces the weird.

Puff sleeves, dark lighting, and walls that look damp.

The circus vibe — psychward and circus were the two places they could be.

Every costume in Crimson Peak is so beautifully constructed.
